| APPLICATION OF LONG LINE - PICC ON PEDIATRIC CLINIC. THREE YEARS EXPIRIENCE

In three
years of patients treatment long line (PICC) was used in 64 patients
(41 boys). Leading diagnose was acute lymphatic leukosis (ALL)
in 41 case, pretemporary delivery in 11 cases, congenital heart
diseses (VCC) in 4 cases, patients after surgery in 5 cases and
malnutrition in 1 case. The most frequent complication was obliteration
of catheter in 10 cases, elevated body temperature in 5 cases
(according to catheter sespsis criteria, sepsis was proved in
only 1 case), bleeding in 3 cases, damageing of catheter in 2
cases, catheter flow out in 1 case. Average period of catheter
use was 54 days and age of patients 1 day to 14 years. Conclusion:
Application of long line (PICC) in treatment of pediatric patients,
regarding undelying condition, was of greatest value. Complications
like infectious complications and other (repeated vein punctions,
pain etc.) were reduced. Approach to vein was simple and with
great safety.
